Owlets

Welcome to Year 2, 3 & 4!

Welcome to Owlets!

It’s been a fantastic Spring term so far!

In Spring 1, we have been learning about Mary Anning, and our writing has been inspired by the book Fossil Girl. The children have absolutely loved exploring her story and discovering how her fossil findings changed the world of science.

Throughout the unit, they produced some truly amazing writing. We were so impressed with their enthusiasm, creativity, and the way they brought Mary Anning’s story to life in their work.

The children were so inspired that many of them brought in their own fossils and dinosaur books to share with the class. One child even visited Lyme Regis over half term to further his learning and see where Mary Anning made her discoveries.

It has been so special to see just how inspired and engaged they have been — their excitement for learning has been wonderful to watch!

Another highlight of Spring 1 was our parent workshop, where families were invited into the classroom to take part in a science experiment linked to our topic on forces and magnets.

The children investigated friction by changing the materials on a ramp and then rolling a toy car down it to see how the different surfaces affected its speed. They made predictions, observed carefully, and discussed their findings like real scientists!

It was wonderful to see the children so confidently explaining their learning and working together with their grown-ups. The hall was full of excitement, curiosity and fantastic scientific thinking. Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us — it made the experience even more special for the children.

Coming up in Spring 2...

In Spring 2, we are very excited to be rehearsing for our class Easter performance. The children are already working incredibly hard as they practise their lines, songs and actions.

This year, we will be performing Three Trees for our grown-ups and for the rest of the school. The story shares a beautiful message and the children are really enjoying bringing it to life on stage.

We are so proud of their enthusiasm and confidence, and we cannot wait to share their wonderful performance with you!
