Owlets
Welcome to Year 2, 3 & 4!
In Owlets, we have our Year 2, 3 and 4 children with their teacher, Miss Stevens.
This half term...
In Owlets, we follow a three-year rolling programme, enabling us to offer a varied and engaging curriculum for all year groups.
This half term (Summer 1 2026), we have been learning…
For Reading, we have been exploring Oliver and the Seawigs by Philip Reeve. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this imaginative and humorous story, using it to support discussion, prediction and the development of their comprehension skills.
In English, our writing has been closely linked to Oliver and the Seawigs, allowing the children to immerse themselves in the story. We have written scripts between characters, diary entries describing the exploration of tropical islands, and instructions on how to survive on a mysterious island. The children have also created silly poems inspired by rambling isles and Seawigs, as well as letters home describing their exciting journeys.
In Maths, Year 3 and 4 have been focusing on multiplication and division, length and perimeter, and fractions, and are now moving on to mass and capacity. Year 2 have been developing their understanding of multiplication and division, length and height, and mass, capacity and temperature, and have now begun their work on fractions.
In our Wider Curriculum, we have been exploring where our food comes from in Geography. The children have learned about the journey food takes from growth to plate, including food miles and Fairtrade, and have considered how our choices can impact the wider world. In Science, we have been learning about classification and changing habitats, exploring how living things are grouped, observing seasonal changes, and considering both human and natural impacts on habitats and the environment.
Supporting your child's learning at home
Home Learning
Home learning in Owlets focuses on consolidating key skills taught in school. The children are given weekly spellings to practise at home, with a short spelling check in school. Work booklets are also sent home at the end of each term for use in the following term, providing additional opportunities to reinforce learning at a pace that suits each child.

Reading
We place a strong emphasis on encouraging a love of reading. Our class has a weekly library session on Wednesdays, so children are encouraged to bring their reading diaries and library books to school in order to change them regularly. We also encourage children to read at home as often as possible and record this in their reading diaries.

Maths
To support their mathematical development, children are encouraged to practise their times tables regularly. We have printed resources available in the classroom to support this, but we also recommend daily practice at home through games such as Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) or other quick recall activities to help build fluency and confidence.

Communication
Miss Stevens is available to speak to at the classroom door at the beginning and end of the school day. Non-urgent messages and enquiries can be sent via the Class Dojo messaging system.
For any urgent messages, please contact the school office at admin5201@welearn.com to ensure they are received promptly. This includes any changes to collection arrangements.
PE and Outdoor Learning
Owlets have PE on Tuesdays (outdoor) and Thursdays (indoor). Please ensure children come to school in appropriate PE kit, including suitable footwear for outdoor sessions.
On Tuesday afternoons, we also have Forest School with Mr Jones. As this can be muddy, children should have waterproof shoes or wellies, along with a spare set of clothes in school.
