Wolverton Pupil Development Programme
At Wolverton Primary School, we believe that education is about more than what happens in the classroom. Our Pupil Development Programme is designed to open children's eyes to the wider world and provide them with a wealth of experiences, opportunities and responsibilities during their time with us.
Through our curriculum and wider school life, we support children to develop as confident, resilient and ambitious individuals. Our values of Resilience, Ambition and Curiosity, alongside our rules of Ready, Respect and Safe, underpin everything we do and help children to develop the character, confidence and independence they need to thrive.
Opening Worlds of Learning
We want every child to experience things they may not otherwise encounter and to discover new interests, talents and possibilities. Through visits, visitors, clubs, outdoor learning, community links, leadership opportunities and themed experiences, we broaden children's horizons and help them to understand the world beyond our local community.
We also introduce children to a wide range of careers and future possibilities, helping them to understand how their learning connects to the real world and encouraging them to have high aspirations for their future.
Developing Responsible Citizens
Our children are encouraged to understand their place within our school, local community and wider society. Through our curriculum, assemblies and everyday school life, they learn about fairness, responsibility, relationships, rules and the importance of contributing positively to the communities around them.
The five British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs are woven throughout our curriculum and wider provision. Our school rules of Ready, Respect and Safe provide children with a clear understanding of how we work together as a community and how our choices affect others.
Pupil Voice and Leadership
We believe that children should have a voice in their school and opportunities to make a positive difference. As children grow through the school, they are given increasing opportunities to take responsibility, share their ideas and develop their leadership skills.
From simple classroom responsibilities and teamwork in our younger children, through to School Council, House Captains, School Ambassadors, Eco Warriors, OPAL Leaders, Journalists, Wellbeing Ambassadors and Librarians, we want every child to have the opportunity to contribute and lead.
These experiences help children to develop confidence, communication, problem-solving, decision-making and resilience, while understanding that leadership is about taking responsibility and making a positive difference to others.
Preparing Children for the Future
Our aim is that every child leaves Wolverton Primary School with more than a strong academic foundation. We want them to leave with broadened horizons, confidence in themselves and an understanding of the many possibilities available to them.
We want our children to be curious about the world, resilient when faced with challenges, ambitious for their future and ready, respectful and safe in all that they do.
By valuing our individual children, nurturing their interests and opening their eyes to a world of learning opportunities, we aim to prepare them to realise their full potential and become responsible, confident members of our changing society.
